Jonathan L. Gleason, MD
James D and Mary Joe Danella Chief Quality Officer, Executive Vice President, Jefferson Health
Dr. Gleason came to Jefferson Health in 2019 from the Carilion Clinic/Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where he served in a variety of roles, including chief quality officer, vice president for clinical advancement and patient safety, and assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology. As the chief quality officer at Carilion Clinic, Dr. Gleason led a system-wide infrastructure and process redesign for quality and patient safety, clinical risk management, patient advocacy, process improvement, accreditation, human factors, and safety simulation.
He and his team achieved 30-40 percent reductions in hospital-acquired infections and major reductions in serious safety events, leading Carilion Clinic hospitals to perform at a Leapfrog A grade level. Dr. Gleason’s experience in deploying a system-wide approach to delivering excellent quality and patient-safety outcomes aligns well with the direction of Jefferson. Dr. Gleason earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is certified in
obstetrics and gynecology and in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
